The Heritage Centre is run by a team of volunteers. We cover all aspects of the running of the site including setting up the exhibitions & events, archives, running the town tours, front of house meeting and greeting visitors, gift shop etc. A gardening group looks after our courtyard garden. We have monthly meetings when each section reports progress and plan future activities. We also have social events run by the Friends. Here is what just two of our volunteers have to say:-
“Over the years I have taken a great interest in artistic type hobbies – for example art, jewelery making and creative embroidery. The latter drew me into the group of stitchers who started to produce the Knutsford Millennium Tapestry in the late 1990’s. We stitchers were asked to become more involved with the Centre and I have been happy to do so and have enjoyed the work very much. I have maintained my interest in the tapestry and do tapestry talks for visitors. Sometimes I work in the shop and, because I am a keen gardener, I have helped to develop and maintain the Heritage Centre Garden”
“Working at the Centre has been most enjoyable and it has increased considerably my knowledge of Knutsford and its rich history. It is hard work maintaining a building and organisation like the Heritage Centre in these hard economic times, but it is always a thrill when we are bombarded by a coach load of visitors or a large group books one of the tours” Julia C.
“I volunteered in Aug 2011 after being informed of the opportunity by a friend. I hadn’t previously been involved in anything similar but I was keen to find out more. It offered me the chance to get more involved in Knutsford’s local heritage and activities, with the particular benefits of absorbing the information and meeting visitors. The recent Friends’ Jazz evening was particularly enjoyable, and the ‘friends’ themselves are very interesting and great company” Chris R
