THE ORAL HISTORY OF KNUTSFORD

THE ORAL HISTORY OF KNUTSFORD – A major new project by the Knutsford Heritage Centre

Oral history is the recording of people’s memories, experiences and opinions.
It is:
  • A living history of everyone’s unique life experiences
  • An opportunity for those people who have been ‘hidden from history’ to have their voice heard
  • A rare chance to talk about and record history face-to-face
  • A source of new insights and perspectives that may challenge our view of the past
The Knutsford Heritage Centre believes that oral history is of great social importance and plans to create a permanent archive of personal recollections relating to the town’s past.
Local residents will be invited to air their memories to a team of trained Heritage Centre volunteers. The recordings will be collected, catalogued and preserved to form a unique oral history of Knutsford throughout most of the 20th century to the present day.
For further information please contact Colin Evans on:caevans1947@gmail.com or via the Heritage Centre.
*This project will be conducted within the Oral History Society guidelines for good practice in safeguarding the legal and ethical rights of those taking part.

The Mid-Cheshire Community Rail Partnership’s  “Marvellous Days Out” Poster Exhibition steams into the Heritage Centre at the end of January

This exhibition, commissioned by the  Mid-Cheshire Community Rail Partnership, to evoke the Golden Age of British Travel, features the designs of Nick Thompson from Chester-based Lemondrop Creative.

Thanks to Sally Buttifant, from the Partnership, we are now  delighted to be able to host this exciting railway poster exhibition right here in the Knutsford Heritage Centre.

We are offering our visitors the opportunity to see this amazing collection of iconic art-deco style railway posters, featuring railway stations along the Manchester to Chester rail line, including Knutsford …  all around the theme of having a marvellous day out, encouraging people to use the Mid-Cheshire railway line.

You will also be able to buy souvenirs from our gift shop including replicas of these iconic posters. Our range of items includes prints , postcards and a specially commissioned coffee/tea mug featuring the Knutsford poster and the train stops along the line.
