THE ORAL HISTORY OF KNUTSFORD – A major new project by the Knutsford Heritage Centre

Oral history is the recording of people’s memories, experiences and opinions.
It is:
  • A living history of everyone’s unique life experiences
  • An opportunity for those people who have been ‘hidden from history’ to have their voice heard
  • A rare chance to talk about and record history face-to-face
  • A source of new insights and perspectives that may challenge our view of the past
The Knutsford Heritage Centre believes that oral history is of great social importance and plans to create a permanent archive of personal recollections relating to the town’s past.
Local residents will be invited to air their memories to a team of trained Heritage Centre volunteers. The recordings will be collected, catalogued and preserved to form a unique oral history of Knutsford throughout most of the 20th century to the present day.
For further information please contact Colin Evans or via the Heritage Centre.
*This project will be conducted within the Oral History Society guidelines for good practice in safeguarding the legal and ethical rights of those taking part.

Follow the Pumpkin Path to the Heritage Centre at the end of October

This year Wallwood will be ‘decked out’ in a spooky fashion with witches, wizards, spooky music and decoration.

The Pumpkin Path event runs from 4pm to 8pm with visitors finding the pumpkins with their carved letter in participating retailers, then walking up to Wallwood to find the last two pumpkins, enjoy the atmosphere and the spooky characters.

The first 400 children that return to King Street to post their entries in the Heritage Centre post box will each receive a limited edition Pumpkin bug … and we promise there will be no spooky man jumping out to scare you this year!
